Happy Leap Day
Beau will you marry me? LOL If humans could marry their dogs, I am sure they would. What great companions they are. Loyal, trustworthy, always happy to see you at the end of the day, eat whatever you put in front of them, and most importantly unconditional LOVE. Thankfully I have a human husband who fulfills all these requirements, and two wonderful corgis to help him make my life corgitastic!

Hugh (almost) the show dog
This is our friend Hugh and one of his dads, Ed. Hugh was born July 4, 2010. His breeder had originally wanted to put him in the show ring but we have heard that will not be happening. We think he is a fine representation of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed. We were looking forward to going to some shows and being "groupies"! Oh well, now when we go romping in the woods together we won't have to worry about messing up his hair! Hugh in our book you are corgitastic!

Beau and River
10/10/10
This little cutie is River, she is a golden retriever puppy that belongs to our friends Jan and Dan. They live on the Boardman river. She was born on Lisa's birthday, August 17th. She is 3 1/2 months younger than Beau. They love rough housing together. She also has an older sister named Maya, who is like the mother hen to the four dogs. True to her name she loves the river. She is constantly in it no matter what the season is. This winter we were out for a walk and River was jumping in wading around and the other three dogs looked at her like she was crazy! The two corgis stay out of the river, I don't think their short little legs would be able to keep up with the current. We are forturnate to have good friends that love dogs too.

My Other Passion
I know this is a blog about the life of Beau and Maxwell. (But) I had to add a couple of pics of our eagles that perch in our tree in our front yard. We live on West Bay and there are plenty of fish and ducks for the eagles. We have been watching them for 6 years and we never tire of seeing them. They are amazing raptors. I have trained the dogs to not bark at the eagles. We have had them in the trees staring down at the dogs. The only time I worried was when the boys were puppies. I thought the eagles might think they were tasty little morsels to snatch up. The eagles are constantly leaving us the remains of fish and ducks, which Beau and Max either like to eat or roll in. Everyone asks us if we would like them to nest in our yard. We say NO. I don't think that would be safe. I have been watching the Decorah Eagles on UStream and have found this to be an incredible way to learn about their nesting habits. There is a raptor rehabilitation facility in our area called Wings of Wonder. We have been blessed to go and witness an eagle released back into the wild. It was so moving I cried.
I am very passionate about the eagles, I love them almost as much as my corgis.

I will always look up to my big brother Harley
Our dear Harley was 14 in this picture. Beau was 5 months. We never realized what a close eye Harley kept on Beau until we looked back at pictures. Harley passed away 11/01/10 due to complications of kidney disease. Harley's spirit lives inside Beau. He has physically revealed himself to me a couple of times since his death.. We miss him, but are very thankful for the two dear sweet boys we have now, Beau and Maxwell.

Happy Valentine's Day to all our 4 legged friends
It was LOVE at FIRST SIGHT with this little fella, this is our first night home. We could not resist Beau's charms at all. As you can see the feeling was mutual! He has been a joy to have in our home.

Saturday with Makita
Today Beau and Max spent the day with their "cousin" Makita. She is a 2 1/2 year old mixed breed that belongs to Sean and Jordan. Mama Lisa is her grandma. We love to have her visit she is very well mannered and doesn't bark. The dogs romped in the snow and played inside too. They also napped to re-energize! We call them the "Three Musketeers"

Wishing it was Spring
This was taken last May. The wind is howling out there on West Bay. We are in the house praying for Spring.
Baby dog is growing up!
Today Maxwell is 11 months. He has grown into a very handsome boy. With all of our children and dogs we have celebrated the first years worth of monthly birthdays. Next month we will have a party for his first birthday. With the shadow from the sun he almost looks like a tri! He is all red. A fellow corgi lover told us once "the redder the better" that it was very highly regarded in the show ring world. We couldn't be happier with this little guy. He is smart, playful, cuddly, full of character and is learning how to give the "Corgi Winks"

Our bff Brody
Beau and Brody met in puppy kindergarten. They looked at each other and thought "you're my kind". They have been inseperable ever since. Even bringing Maxwell into the house did not deter the friendship between the two of them. Beau is the alpha of the three. He likes to make sure the other two are always toeing the line. Here are some fun pictures.
We played very rough together in class. When it came time for basic obedience all we wanted to do was play! |

Congratulations Queen Elizabeth II
Today is Queen Elizabeth II's 60th anniversary of her reign on the throne. What an accomplishment!
We have always said when people want to know what kind of dogs we have, we respond Pembroke Welsh Corgis the Queens dogs. We have always thought they were royalty. Here are some pictures of the Queen and her dogs.

The Royal Corgis
I have always felt it was so cool that I had a dog that the Queen loved. She also has Dorgis that are a cross between a corgi and a dachsund.

Another lesson learned for the humans in the household
One evening last summer in August. Some friends called and invited us to go out for dinner. I am always up for eating out! I suggested to my husband that we leave the pups out to see how they do while we are away. At this time Maxwell was 5 months and Beau was 16 months. We left them in a room downstairs that used to belong to one of our sons. We left fresh water and plenty of toys and other items to chew on. We figured we would be gone a couple of hours. During our time away from the house we were joking with the other couple about leaving the puppies out of the crates UNATTENDED! They joked about leaving their elderly mother home alone, what kind of trouble she could get into. We enjoyed a nice meal at a restuarant called Knot Just A Bar, located in Omena MI.
When we arrived home my husband went to let the pups out. He yelled OH MY GOSH, Lisa you better get down here and bring the camera.
This is what we found.

Sorry this is fuzzy, you will note Beau is NOW chewing on a rawhide! The look of glee on Maxwell's face. He is saying "We had the best time mama, can you leave us out of our crates again!"
To say the least we do not leave them unattended yet. They are either in their crates or we have an area in the lower level we call the play pen.
Side note: Thankfully this was the only piece of furniture they have ruined, and who knows where that chair came from? One of our sons brought it home from college, I had been trying to get it out of the house for years. The boys did me a big favor!
